Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, at an election rally in Uttar Pradesh's Rudrapur on Tuesday, poured water over his head from a bottle as the heatwave continued in northern India. Gandhi briefly stopped his speech and said, “Buckle up, the temperature is rising (garmi hai kaafi)… the INDIA bloc government is coming," and then poured the water. The maximum temperature in several areas of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday crossed 49 degrees Celsius.

Watch: Water sprinkled on overheated transformers in UP's Moradabad amid heatwave

After transformers in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad overheated due to the extreme heatwave, water was sprinkled on them in a bid to reduce the temperature. According to power department officials, the temperature of the transformers should not go above 60-70 degrees Celsius, so they brought the temperature down to 50 degrees Celsius. To ensure smooth power transmission, the electricity department has come up with this unique method.
